PRESS RELEASE

28th of January 2014 - Symposium "Personal data protection present and future"

On the 28th of January 2014 we celebrate the European Data Protection Day. This date corresponds to the anniversary of 33 years since the signature of Convention 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data, in 1981 in Strasbourg, the first legal instrument adopted in the data protection field.

The purpose of celebrating this day is the awareness of individuals from all over Europe on the importance of the protection of personal data and the specific rights that they can exercise.

On this occasion, the national supervisory authorises for data protection from the European states organise specific events.

In order to honour the European Data Protection Day, the Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing will organise the Symposium having the theme “Personal Data Protection – present and future”, on the 28th of January 2014, at the premises of the Parliament Palace, starting with the hours 11:00.

Informative materials dedicated to the European Data Protection Day are available on http://www.dataprotection.ro/index.jsp?page=Informal_documentation&lang=en.

The access of mass-media will be made based on the accreditation already existing in the Parliament Palace.
