The European Conference of the national authorities for the protection of personal data

 

Within 26th – 27th of May 2016, the European Conference of the national authorities for the protection of personal data took place. During this event, the topic discussed referred to measures to be taken at European and national level in the light of the new general Regulation on the processing of personal data, adopted by the European Parliament and Council, which entered into force on the 25th of May 2016.

Within this prestigious reunion it was pointed out that, on European level, the new global standards for the protection of privacy and personal data are defined by the adoption of the new legislative package, and the national data protection authorities will be involved in preparing the effective application of this Regulation, including with regard to obtaining adequate financial and human resources for the effective enforcement of their powers.

In the same time, the concern of the participants focused on the issues relating to the strengthening of cooperation between national data protection authorities, appropriate tools for the transfers of data to third countries and the establishment of the consistency mechanism at the level of the European Data Protection Board, body of the European Union with legal personality established according to Regulation no. 679/2016.

At this Conference resolutions relating to the new regulatory framework of the European Union, respectively relating to the transfer of personal data were adopted two.

This event highlighted the special involvement of the national authorities in reforming this domain and ensuring a real protection for the rights of individuals.
