EDPB Plenary – April 2024
During the Plenary of the European Data Protection Board of 16-17 April, the following documents were adopted:
- The EDPB Strategy 2024-2027
- Opinion no. 8/2024 n on Consent or Pay Models for Large Online Platforms
In this opinion, the EDPB notes that when developing alternatives, large online platforms should take into consideration giving users an “equivalent alternative” which does not imply the payment of a tax and that the following criteria should be taken into account with regard to the need for consent to be unrestricted: conditionality, harm, imbalance of power and granularity. The decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Bunderdeskartellamt v. Meta Platforms (C 252/21) was also taken into account in issuing this opinion.
