Information campaign within the education units
The National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing also continued this year the communication activities intended for the information of the general public in relation to the rules for the processing of personal data, by reference to its competences established under the General Data Protection Regulation, with the purpose of increasing the level of understanding of the general public of the risks, rules and rights from the personal data field, with an accent in relation to the activities addressed specifically to children.
In this context, we mention that the General Data Protection Regulation created an additional level of protection in case the personal data of the children are processed, determined by the fact that the latter can be less aware of the risks, consequences and their rights in relation to the processing of the personal data, including in the online environment.
Considering the aspects above, the National Supervisory Authority for the Processing of Personal Data appreciated that an increase of the degree of information of the students in relation to the main notions and risks implied by the use of the personal data would be beneficial.
Therefore, our institution initiated at the beginning of this year a collaboration with the Ministry of Education in order to identify the most adequate actions to inform the students from the secondary and high school units in relation to the general rules for the processing of the personal data, the risks implied, inclusively within the digital environment.
Thus, the preparation of two leaflets was agreed, named The protection of the data – secondary school and The protection of data – high school, in order to be distributed, mainly in electronic form by the Ministry of Education within the coordinated education units. These informative materials were prepared by the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing with the support of the representatives from the Ministry of Education, in a clear and concise language, adapted and graphically illustrated in a manner appropriate to the age of the recipients.
These leaflets are to be distributed within the education units by the Ministry of Education starting with the 2023-2024 school year, through the specific means available.
With this occasion, we hereby express the hope that these actions will contribute to the increase of the degree of awareness of the students in relation to the notions specific to the data protection, including in relation to the rights they can benefit from and the manner to exercise them.
