28th of January 2024 – EUROPEAN DATA PROTECTION DAY
The European Data Protection Day is celebrated on the 28th of January 2024 by all the Member States of the Council of Europe, when 43 years since the adoption in 1981 of Convention 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data are marked.
The annual celebration of this day through a series of specific manifestations is part of the goal to increase the information of the large public in relation to the need to protect the personal data, under the sign of the highlight of the importance of the right to private life and personal data protection.
To mark the European Data Protection Day, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing will organize on 26th of January 2024 the online conference named “The role and efficiency of the data protection officer’s activity”.
At this event there have been invited, mainly, the representative central public authorities and institutions, the most important professional associations and unions, chambers of commerce, companies and mass-media representatives with the purpose to analyse the theoretical and practical aspects regarding the status granted to the data protection officer within the public institutions and companies, regarding his role within the promotion of the observance of the rules for the use of personal data.
The celebration of the European Data Protection Day will be held also with the support of the national television TVR and of the Bucharest Transport Company which will broadcast the information video dedicated to the General Data Protection Regulation (message of public interest) made by ANSPDCP.
In this context, we mention that our institution has initiated collaborations with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, in order to identify the adequate means dedicated to the increase of the level of training of these institutions’ personnel of inclusively in relation to the Schengen acquis.
