EDPB PLENARIES

During the Plenaries of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), held online in April and May 2025, the following relevant documents were adopted:

  • Opinion 06/2025 regarding the extension of the European Commission Implementing Decisions under the GDPR and the LED on the adequate protection of personal data in the United Kingdom;

The opinion addresses the European Commission’s proposal to extend the two United Kingdom adequacy decisions under the GDPR and Directive 2016/680, which are due to expire on 27 June 2025. This opinion only concerns the proposal to extend these adequacy decisions by six months, until 27 December 2025. This will give the European Commission sufficient time to assess the updated legal framework of the United Kingdom after its adoption.

  • Opinion 07/2025 regarding the European Commission Draft Implementing Decision pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the adequate protection of personal data by the European Patent Organisation;

An adequacy decision is a key mechanism in EU data protection law, which allows the European Commission to determine whether a third country or an international organisation offers an adequate level of data protection.

  • the EDPB’s 2024 Annual Report – which provides an overview of the Board’s work in the previous year;
  • Adoption of the EDPB Strategy for the period 2024-2027, which established the priorities of the European Board’s work.
  • Guidelines 02/2025 on processing of personal data through blockchain technologies (under public consultation until 9 June 2025)
